Cat Marini is a busy woman with work, school, tutoring, and modeling. On top of all of this, she is busy planning a wedding but took the time to tell us about her life, and how she feels about mermaids as well as ghosts!
Gothesque: How long have you been modeling? What got you started, and what keeps you creating?
Cat Marini: I started modeling when I was like 17? But then I stopped for a few years because “mainstream” modeling has very strict rules on weight, height, tattoos, piercings, etc. and I just felt held back! Now I’ve been involved in more of the alternative industry for almost four years.
Gothesque: Is there a model that you look up to or are inspired by?
Cat Marini: There’s a ton. I always have to shout out my fellow Sullen Angel, Bernadette Macias, because she’s really made a name for herself in the alternative industry as a solid model. But I have love for all of my Sullen girls. Some of the most genuine and hard-working models I know!
Gothesque: What do you always make sure to take along with you to photoshoots?
Cat Marini: I literally put a couple bags just full of everything! Haha, makeup, lashes, panties, tons of heels/shoes!!
Gothesque: What is your advice to aspiring young models?
Cat Marini: Understand that this business is something that will really defeat you if you let it!! You have to be willing to work really hard no matter how many times you get told no, and you have to really be ok with loving yourself!! Work with people you love and let it be a passion!
Gothesque: What do you do for fun in your free time?
Cat Marini: Model!! Haha, I go to school full time, and I bartend 4-5 nights/days a week, as well as tutor at the school I attend. I’m also obsessed with Disneyland so I try to kidnap my husband and make runaway trips there when time allows it.
Gothesque: I see from Facebook you are from Utah? When and why did you move to CA?
Cat Marini: I am! I moved to San Diego in 2014 to be closer to Sullen and more involved with the modeling world. Now I’m in the Bay Area, modeling when the opportunity and stars align.
Gothesque: I also see that you are engaged and will soon walk down the aisle. What has been the most difficult thing about planning a wedding so far?
Cat Marini: So we’re actually married (surprise!), but we only had a civil ceremony so that my grandpa (who is 90!) could sign as a witness. I wanted him to be part of our marriage and traveling to CA would have been too difficult. As far as planning the wedding we are having in November, just being a tad OCD that I’m making sure I get everything done. I have nightmares of showing up to nothing at an empty venue in my dress, haha it’s awful. But it’s going to be beautiful! I’m very excited!!
Gothesque: Where will you be going for your honeymoon?
Cat Marini: We’re shooting for an Ireland/London/ and possibly Germany/Italy trip 🙂
Gothesque: How did your dog Captain Barbossa come to be a part of your life?
Cat Marini: I’ve had him since the day he was born. He’s literally been my ride or die roll doggy haha he’s moved with me everywhere the last 5 years and I honestly believe he was given to me to keep me sane!
Gothesque: At what age did you learn how to swim?
Cat Marini: I’ve been swimming since I was maybe 3? 4? Not great, but I can!
Gothesque: Do you believe in mermaids?
Cat Marini: YES! Since I was 3 or 4! 🙂 The Little Mermaid came out the year I was born, and I made my mom play it over and over. I also have a huge mermaid tattoo on my right sleeve (as well as an octopus!).
Gothesque: Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever experienced a haunting?
Cat Marini: I’m fairly sure ghosts/spirits used to follow me when I was little. Both my mom and step mom said they saw a little girl that would appear by me. I’m not sure of a haunting or if I just spook myself but I definitely believe in spirits.
